I'm trying to parse hh:mm:ss values, there the seconds value can have a decimal fraction.

It looks like (translate hh:mm:ss ms) should do this, but it behaves rather oddly:

Entering 00:05.5 into the attached patch returns 5005 milliseconds.

In other words, it does not behave as a decimal fraction: it just takes everything after the . including trailing zeroes, as a value in milliseconds.

Is there a way to achieve this correctly? I would like 00:5.5 to return 5500 ms, and 00:55.05 to return 5050 milliseconds, which is mathematically correct...

Hmm, that's cool, but it doesn't deal with the case when there is nothing after the decimal.

ie. give it 1.5 and it returns 1500 ms correctly, but just 1. doesn't return anything - you have to give it 1.10 for it to work.

Not really, it can't tell the difference between 0:0:0.5 (500ms) and 0:0:0.05 (5ms)

google sheet's durations, and they don't allow me to pad the milliseconds to .500 instead of .5

it's just a H:M:S, where S can be a decimal.
