Hello,

though i am using MAX/MSP/Jitter since a few years by now i am new here in the forum.

At the moment i am working on a patch for live VJ-ing that should be easily controllable via a touchscreen. Therefor i have a subpatch with a huge amount of fpic – ubutton objects shown in a bpatcher as tabs.

when a ubutton is clicked i would like to send it’s scripting name as a message to the receiver object. is there any way to achieve this in Max 5?

i thing about something like a function call in javascript. ie.:

onclick =”fooFunction(this)”

looking forward for any replies.

The patch below will dynamically assign a [receive] object based on the text of a button in the [tab] object. I’m not sure what you meant about the scripting names but if you could post a patch with the things you have tried maybe it will become clear to me. I hope this helps.

at the end of the post there is a patch that is showing a bit better what i am searching for.

in my patch are many buttons (in the original script it will be ubuttons) that will be dynamically connected to other objects. as they will be really a lot i would like to avoid to connect every button with a message box to distinguish which button is sending the bang /message.

it is mostly a matter of efficiency: the scripting name in the inspector is generated automatically by copy/pasting using an ascending index.

is there any way i.e. with a javascript in a js object to read the scripting name of the object sending a message?
