I am trying to make an opengl window transparent. Can this be done?

I have a patch working with reactivision that creates 6 different coloured circles which is great but I need this patch to work over the top of a dvd. The problem is the opengl window has a black background and is blocking out the DVD content.

I have had to take a different route for this project but this is what I have so far...

I'm trying to create an interactive project.

what I'm trying to do is use reacTIVision to bring colored circles that you can move around with the fiducial id tag's 0-5 over the top of some films I've made.

I have compressed the films using the apple Pro Res proxy codec and they play smoothly but the problem is that they are very pixelated.
