tremolo

never really figured how to make a BASIC tremolo + phasor for input (guitar).

ne1 got any quick tips?

1) tremolo = slow(ish) deep amplitude modulation

[cycle~] into right inlet of a [*~], your audio signal in the left
input, freq of [cycle~] between maybe .1 & 10 Hz or so, depending on
speed you want – you might also mix the amp. modulated signal with
the dry signal to vary the amount of overall trmolo

2) phasor = very short delay, time modulated & mixed with original

use [comb~] with no feedback, delay time 5-20 Hz or so, delay time
modulated with a [cycle~] at very low freq., mix output of [comb~]
with original signal to vary depth

hi, thanks for the response. Couldnt get the phasor to work, mind giving me an example please?

I’d be happy to…but can’t currently get MaxMSP to open on my
MacBook Pro, since having run the 10.4.9 Combo updater. I’ll see if I
can get on another machine later.

Replace the oscillator with whatever input source you prefer – [adc~]
or equivalent for real-time live input (i.e. your guitar).

I should add, the bigger (potential) problem is the guitar input
itself. To get a proper impedance match (and therefor the optimum
signal level & quality) you need an audio interface that will take a
‘hi-z’ or ‘instrument’ input, or else use a hi-to-low impedance
matching transformer into a regular mic input. Another alternative is
if your guitar amp has a line out. In other words, just putting a
1/4"-to-whatever adapter on the end of your guitar cable and going
directly into your computer’s audio input jack won’t typically give
the best results.

with a 1/4 jack on guitar there is a lot of crackling and noise. Your recommendation is to use a mic or just mic lead with 1/4 jack?
