triggering bang using jit.op for interactive art installation….

Greetings Max programmers,

I’m still semi-new to max. Please pardon me if I use incorrect terminology.
I’m trying to create a system for an interactive installation where a web camera and LCD display are in a box. When the user sticks there head inside this box it triggers a bang to fade from black to live video grab in which the user can then see themselves. Then it records for about 10 seconds. After 10 seconds it stops recording then fades back to black.

I’ve started a patch and now I’m a bit stuck where to go. There is probably a much better way than my current approach. Perhaps GL is a better way but I’m on a tight schedule play around with it so I’m going to stick with quicktime for now.
I haven’t included the recording system in the patch. The problem I’m experiencing is the constant bang when the user moves there head which effects the fading in and out.

Any tips, advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Ah, that could be the solution I’m looking for. Thanks for the tip, brendan! I’ll give it a try and provide a follow up. -:)
