Hey all,

Looking for a bit of advice.

I have a PBG4 1.67 and a Tibook 867MHz, an Isight, and a Canopus advc
capture device.

I am doing a live video performance, and I was wondering what some
suggested configurations of these would be, to get the best quality
output. What I am currently planning on is…

PBG4 1.67 running my main OpenGL patch, with the ADVC device attached
as an input device. Then on my tibook, I have the isight going in,
and then routing the composite video out and into the advc on the
PBG4. Seems to make sense.

Any suggestions? I also plan on having a few devices attached for control…
like a PS2 controller, and probably an Xsession, for virtual mixing.

I am open for any ideas, as I want to make this setup as efficient as possible.

Thanks,
Computo

thats what I would suggest.

If you want to remove latency, you might look at a DFG 1394, which
brings in uncompressed video via firewire, and removes the ~ 7 frame
latency that most ADC~ DV capture devices impose (as well as the CPU
overhead of decompressing the DV Stream). Just a thought :)

WOW, thats a pricy little box.

A bit to rich for my blood, to resolve only a 7ms lag.

I wouldnt get it for audio, so I wont get it for video.

But thanks for the advice!

Any other thoughts?

7 frames is a lot more than 7 milliseconds.

1 frame is typically 1 30th of a second, or 33.333 milliseconds. 7
frames is 233.33 milliseconds, which is .. enough to loose
syncopation imo. It also resolves decompression issues, it frees up
your CPU from decoding the incoming stream.

ah, I read your message wrong. yes, 7 frames is a lot, but for the
application Im using it for, its not a problem.

But thanks for clarifying. now that device seems like a worthwhile piece.
