ubutton: anything similar but visible?

is there anything similar to a ubutton but visible, when not in edit mode?

working on a tap control needing a button, which sends bang on both on and off states, but upon mouse control.

here’s what i have and seems clumsy to me:

max v2;
#N vpatcher 10 59 724 507;
#P toggle 57 100 15 0;
#P window setfont “Sans Serif” 9.;
#P message 57 78 14 196617 0;
#P message 71 78 14 196617 1;
#P user ubutton 57 60 54 15 0 0;
#P comment 58 62 32 196617 TAP!;
#B frgb 255 0 0;
#P user panel 57 60 52 16;
#X brgb 191 191 191;
#X frgb 0 0 0;
#X border 1;
#X rounded 0;
#X shadow 0;
#X done;
#P connect 2 0 4 0;
#P connect 3 0 5 0;
#P connect 4 0 5 0;
#P connect 2 1 3 0;
#P pop;

thank you much for any suggestion,

jrp
p.s. beware i am still on 4.63

i’m sorry don malone, i don’t get your idea to work as the patch i posted.

the patch i posted sends a 1, when mousing down over the ubutton area, and a 0 when relasing the mouse button. that way i can achieve to tap times as short as 40 ms, whereas with your idea, given that i wired it correctly, i have to click toggle twice which only gets me approx. 90 ms of minimum tap.

did i wire it wrong? how would you wire it? or is there other ways to send 1 when mouse don and 0 when mouse up? mousestate doesn’t do it initially as it reads the mouse anywhere, and no inside a dedicated click region.

a normal button then sends bang only on clicking but not when releasing it. same goes for leds. hmm…

[lcd] has an outlet for reporting mouse up and down. I don’t know how helpful this will be in your situation though.

If you are on Mac you could use my good old rs.textbutton object which
does this nicely:

http://arts.lu/roby/maxstuff/rs_textbutton_OSX_46.zip

#P toggle 204 129 15 0;
#P user rs.textbutton 204 71 64 32 170 170 170 214 0 6 200 200 200 214
0 6 TAP! TAP! 4 9 0 1 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 1;
#P toggle 57 100 15 0;
#P window setfont “Sans Serif” 9.;
#P window linecount 1;
#P message 57 78 14 196617 0;
#P message 71 78 14 196617 1;
#P user ubutton 57 60 54 15 0 0;
#P comment 58 62 32 196617 TAP!;
#B frgb 255 0 0;
#P user panel 57 60 52 16;
#X brgb 191 191 191;
#X frgb 0 0 0;
#X border 1;
#X rounded 0;
#X shadow 0;
#X done;
#P connect 6 0 7 0;
#P connect 2 1 3 0;
#P connect 4 0 5 0;
#P connect 3 0 5 0;
#P connect 2 0 4 0;
#P window clipboard copycount 8;
