UMenu In the Middle of A Signal Chain?

August 20, 2008 | 2:28 pm

I have a patch in which I’d like there to be a variable MSP object in the middle of a signal chain–more specifically it’s a triangle~ object proceeded by some basic additive/FM-style stuff, and I’d like to be able to switch the object in performance mode. My first thought was a Umenu object, which, problematically, can’t ‘understand’ MSP signals. I’ve also considered objects like gswitch, though I’d like to be able to switch between more than two different objects. Maybe something with matrix~/matrixctrl?
On a totally subsidiary side note, are there any alternative matrixctrl interfaces available anywhere? I’ve tried changing the cell image several times to not so great results.

have you tried [selector~] ?

WOw… can you explain those lines in your patch !

#P newex 60 60 105 196617 buffer~ noiz noiz.a -1;
#P newex 60 154 94 196617 buffer~ tri tri.a -1;
#P newex 60 134 100 196617 buffer~ sqr sqr.a -1;
#P newex 60 113 105 196617 buffer~ saw saw.a -1;
#P newex 60 89 95 196617 buffer~ sin sin.a -1;

i understand that a wave generator is played direcly in a buffer ?!! is that right.. ?

i’m not able to play any sound out of your patch (i have add the necessary [dac~] and everything).

thank you both… I had tried selector~, in fact that was my first instinct, but umenu seems to me, at least, a far more desirable format, if only for its compactness. Lonemonad, that setup looks perfect, but I’d repeat Maxtreal’s comments. is the cycle~ object to proceed the triangle~, or is it representing the triangle~?

it is the triangle
& replaced w/different waveform

it totally bust out my DSP… i need to restart MAX/MSP..
it scrared the shit hell out of me ! Hopefully my speakers did not explode.

are you sure it is a the best and safiest way for your sound circuits ?

am i deaf now ??
