Unable to access pattr objects

please excuse my ignorance to all of this. I am BRAND new to this. I am trying to insert a pattr object, but it is not in the list of objects that are available. I really dont even know the difference between MX 4 live and MAX msp. I have tired everything to locate this ,but have had no luck

After creating a new object, a palette of available objects comes up. In that pallet there is no PATTR, or anything remotely name like that. As suggested, in another post, I can not simply 'type pattr' and get the desired result. I understand that it should show up, but its as though the version of MAX/MSP I am using has no pattr with it.

I am using Version 5.1.9

Thank you for your patience and time.

Can anyone please guide me on how to gain access to these pattr functions? also I am looking to use autopatr. IWill i need to DL something else for that?

Cheers

Mikee

Reinstall Max 5.1.9? But first, properly uninstall your existing and probably quite broken (if the other thread was anything to go by) install.

Have you tried to locate "pattr.mxe" manually (in the filesystem)? It ought to be in:

C:Program FilesCycling '74Max 5.0Cycling '74max-externals

^ This for Windows. Substitute approriate directory structure for OS X (Program Files == Applications?).

Will be "pattr.mxo" on OS X I think.

Ok so I reinstalled 5.1.9 after removing (and deleting all relevant files) for the last application. After re-installing I did notice the pattr.mxo in the MAX5/Cycling '74/max-externals folder. This should be indicative that I should be able to access the pattr objects but i sitll CAN'T!

FYI. I am trying to edit this inside of Ableton. I open up Ableton, make a new max instrument, and when it opens up at the top is says MaxMSP is the application I am using. I click NEW object, and a palette shows up with a bunch of icons, but none of which are named pattr are present.

Please Help.

The solution can be found in the basic Max tutorial 'Hello': The first icon of the palette is the object box. It will place an empty object box on your patcher window, ready for you to enter its name.

Thank you for pointing out the obvious!
