Hi everyone. I'm new to max and to this community, so hello :D

I'm currently extending an example patch that was posted in another forum for my personal use. I took apart a USB gamepad, soldered wires to the contact points, and will be hooking them up to some arcade switches i found online. My goal is to convert each input into midi. So far, i've extended to program to take messages from all buttons on the gamepad, and have successfully sent midi out from 8 out of 12 of the buttons. The buttons aren't working as the other buttons are part of the D-pad, which register what appears to be a signal unique to the axis.

so i press down or up, and the patch recognizes the input as one value (in the number box in the upper left). and one value for left or right. 4 buttons, 2 values. They also don't seem to be sending a signal in the same fashion as the regular buttons (which match the "select" object), so i've only been able to send an axis-particular midi message by using the "if input doesn't match" out of the "select" object.

what i'm trying to do is get a unique makenote for each of the four directional buttons, making use of each button to total 4 unique buttons rather than them being treated as an axis (with only 2 outs as a result of my blind tinkering).
