Is there a way to use a USB mouse as a controller over an area larger than it is normally limited to by screen resolution?

In other words, the data received from the USB mouse via [mousestate] when moving it around a small area (around 10cm x 10cm) will be 0,0 to 1280, 800 (or max display size). I want to use the mouse on a much larger area (1m x 1m) but it doesn't seem to be possible as there is no signal sent from anything outside of the small 10cm area

I hope there is a way to get an unlimited data signal from the mouse into max. For example a signal that it is moving left, right, up, or down, and not have it limited to the screen resolution.
