Hello,

I am starting to use some VST/VSTi plugins inside Max. No problem, it either works very well or not at all depending on the plugin itself.

As far as I understand, Max does not seem to support VST presets (like Reaper or Cubase for example), but for small VSTs it’s not a problem — here is what I do:

1. get the VST parameter names using the [params( message
2. make a Max GUI for the VST, using common Max graphical widgets
3. save the state of this GUI inside Max using the pattr system

But for Kontakt 4 Player, things are more complicated. When sending the [params( message, it outputs a list of 512 parameters called “#000″, “#001″, … , “#511″. Because of this I cannot use the aforementioned preset saving system.

Is there a way to recall a particular configuration of Kontakt 4 Player inside Max?

Best regards
Julien

Hello Julien,

I think it’s Kontakt-specific. When you want to automate something in Kontakt used as a plug-in you must choose one the 512 numbered parameter (Browser -> auto tab) and assign it by dropping it over the dial corresponding to the parameter to be modulated. At least that’s what I have experienced in Logic. Maybe you must proceed in a similar way with Max and Kontakt Player.

Bonne chance.

Thanks for your answer Roald. Your tip works perfectly in Max, and I also discovered that you can save a Kontakt preset as a *.nkm file. Loading a *.nkm file recalls which instruments were loaded and their full configuration.
Sorry I didn’t know about all this as I could not find a Kontakt 4 Player manual.

The only problem I have now is how to command loading *.nkm files directly from Max. I can still do it manually, but it would be useful if it was possible to do it on patch loading.

Best,
Julien
