Using Smartphones to Deliver/Input Audio into Max/MSP

Hello,

I’ve been studying Max for a few years and finally starting to create with it. I have some concepts for processing sounds from multiple environments using Smartphones to input audio into Max. For instance, say I wanted to have one user standing under a highway bridge and another user standing at a beach during high tide and I wanted each to phone their audio into the same laptop running Max and processing the audio in various ways.

First, any basic ideas for connectivity and second, any thoughts on whether iPhones are totally the way to go or other Smartphones would be just as effective if the know-how was there. I’m not expecting anyone to do my work here, but I’m wondering if anyone could point me into some basic directions.

I’d be tempted to say go android not iphone. much better for connectivity and easier to dev stuff.

Let me know how this project is going, I’m very interested! I wish I could be of more help with it…

How did you go with this? I’ve been using OSCdroid to communicate with Max, which is good so far, but my java knowledge is a bit below par so I haven’t been able to write any objects for it yet…

Well, osc can handle audio and video, and oscdroid is pretty open (as in, you can write your own java plugins)… That, and I’m about 90% sure that I read somewhere (either on his website or in an email with him) that it can handle it… But I haven’t tried to implement it myself,so please don’t get mad at me if it doesn’t work ;)
