v001 Shaders Beta 2

October 14, 2007 | 1:59 am

Hello

I’d like to announce availability of the second beta the v001
Shaders. They are open source, Creative Commons-licensed video and 3D
shaders built specifically for Jitter.

v001 Shader Beta 2.0 can be downloaded at :

http://001.vade.info/

or the direct file :

http://001.vade.info/v001/downloads/v001ShadersB2.zip

I’ve added some fun new shaders. The changelog is below. I’ve got
some other shaders in the pipe, but I wanted to get these out the
door. I’m trying to release a bit more often to keep the kitchen warm.

I would love any feedback, suggestions, compatibility reports and
ideas for new shaders, so feel free to chime in. I have not tested
these shaders on all hardware, so it’s very possible certain shaders
may not work on certain configurations. Your mileage may vary.

I hope you enjoy them, as I’ve had as much fun making them and
learning as I have using them.

Beta 2 – 10.12.2007

New 3D Shaders

v001.3d.glyph.jxs - Use a texture as 2D animation cache, with
frame blending on sequential frames.

New Single Channel Effects

v001.cartopol.jxs - Cartesian to Polar coordinate transform.
v001.channelmixer.jxs - Mix color channels amounts — similar
to Photoshop’s Channel Mixer.
v001.invert.jxs - Quick and simple color invert.
v001.film-bleachbypass.jxs - Bleach Bypass film treatment emulation.
v001.film-lomo.jxs - Lomo camera emulation with vignetting,
contrast boosting and sharpness controls.
v001.film-technicolor1.jxs - Technicolor System 1 emulation. 2
Strip additive process.
v001.film-technicolor2.jxs - Technicolor System 2 emulation. 2
Strip subtractive process.
v001.film-technicolor3.jxs - Technicolor System 3 emulation. 3
Strip subtractive process.
v001.levels.jxs - Photoshop-style levels and curves
control with a texture lookup table for speed.
v001.lumaglyph.jxs - Draw arbitrary glyphs based on
incoming texture luma values.
v001.pixelize.jxs - Downsample spatial resolution.
v001.poltocar.jxs - Polar to Cartesian coordinate transform.
v001.stripes.jxs - Mask image with colored stripes with
rotation and mirroring of stripes and antialiased edges.
v001.scanlines.jxs - CRT-esque scan lines.
v001.tintlight.jxs - Overlay mode tinting.

Updates/Bug fixes

v001.fader.jxs - Updated for arbitrary color fading. No longer
black or white. Now takes vec3 color input, and amount.
v001.3d.parallax.jxs - fixed a bug, now works properly.
v001.blackandwhite.jxs - added lumacomponents variable to better
control luma generation should source image be heavily tinted to one
channel.

Updated help files to have fullscreen via escape key.
Updated Overview to launch helpfiles.

thanks vade!!

Hey Vade,
Finally got a chance to check these out. I like the film color effect
shaders quite a bit. It’s nice to see you developing this set further.

Well done.

Ultra-pimp still holdin it down

It would be cool to add edge blur to the lomography one, I love what happens when you cross process slide film with the diana+ by lomography, cool camera

October 16, 2007 | 5:39 am

thanks guys.

This should be possible with little extra work for the shader as im
already sampling 5 times for the sharpening. Ill see what I can do.
Yeah, I noticed that too. Its hard because each lomo looks kind of
different.

light streaks:) Ive got a really nice light leak shader that
introduces some beautiful saturation and over exposure to edges of
the image trying to emulate poorly built camera enclosures or
development errors

i cant get V001.3d.glyph to work for some reason.
no error message, i tried to load different glyph files from the assets folder, but nothing shows up on the plane .
what am i doing wrong ? i was just trying with the help file.

max 4.6.2
jitter 1.6.3

Hi.

I honestly am not the best at understanding what does and does not
work on the graphics card (its all a bit obfuscated imo), so I might
be doing something programatically that your graphics card does not
handle.

1.33 ppc system? Thats definitely a possibility. What graphics card ?

Does the lumaglyph shader work for you?

that is what i hav e been thinking too, ill try on an intel machine soon, i am sure ill have no problem. right now my graphic card is an ATI Radeon 9700.
and this is the weird thing : the lumaglyph shader worked once perfectly,( i fell in love with it ), the next time i want to mess with it , it would not work anymore (?). i have not changed a thing in the help file patch….

if they are other PPC users out there maybe they could try out the glyph shaders and let us know if they encounter any issues ?
ciao

The scale parameter should be up, fairly ‘high’, around 10 – .. 200.
Its scale the size of the glyph in pixels compared to the original
input video pixels. So it should be very high for very large textures
(> 1024 px square) (so interpolation does not make them look badly
downsampled), and relatively low for smaller textures ( < 512 px
square) so interpolation does not make them look poorly upsampled)

make sure you use square images, power of two, as thats kind of what
is assumed with rect 0 textures in jitter.

maybe restart max. Ive had lots of odd jitter issues with GL that
quitting and reopening solved. Some sort of a state thing.

Let me know :)

Hi there,

Wicked shaders, I seem to be have problem with the lomo one though, I can’t seem to get anything meaning full out of it, I pretty much just get a flickering white circle regardless of what I load into it unless I set all parameters to 0 than it flickers as though I’ve zoomed right in to a couple of pixels. I dont get any errors except cant find test jpeg.

Any ideas of what I’m doing wrong

Cheers

Jack

Hi Dan cheers for getting back to me, Its a a ATI Radeon X1600,
macbook pro 2.16, osx 10.4.10 latest max and jitter. Could you point
me to what could be optimum settings so I can check I’m not just
being incredibly stupid, I spent a couple of hours playing around
with it with absolutely no joy.

Cheers

Jack

these are fantastic shaders!!!
just one question: i noticed that at least the bleach bypass does not seem to be alpha channel aware – if i apply it to a texture with alpha, the mask changes as well.
does anyone know how i could work around this? or might there even be an alpha-aware version of these shaders?
thanks!
k
