very silly observation about patch cords…

it’s really not a big deal but i realized one can not segment a cord more than 8 times , with “segmented patch cords” mode checked or unchecked….

#P window setfont “Sans Serif” 9.;
#P window linecount 3;
#P comment 277 227 100 196617 segmented patch cords mode unchecked;
#P button 314 181 15 0;
#P button 290 90 15 0;
#P button 86 148 16 0;
#P button 83 77 15 0;
#P window linecount 2;
#P comment 46 228 100 196617 segmented patch cords mode;
#P fasten 3 0 4 0 295 119 319 119 319 73 272 73 272 131 333 131 333 54 245 54 245 142;
#P fasten 1 0 2 0 88 100 73 100 73 69 107 69 107 107 64 107 64 61 120 61 120 101;

Another nice one:

try pasting this to max (save your work first!):

#P newobj 62 67 373 9109513 p dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen dingen;

In 4.5.7., windows xp, this immediately crashes max.

While on the subject of patch cords… thru scripting I change their color, but they do not update until:

1) switching from Edit back to Locked mode (not good for the final application)

2) doing a disconnect/reconnect (weird and unnerving)

3) doing a send to back / bring to front of the object where the cords originate.

I wanted to be able to animate thru color changes when data is actively being sent through patch cords. I got it working eventually, but needed to do this weird workaround (#3 above). Strange. The amount of work it took to figure it out was kinda annoying… but, once it worked, it looked pretty dang cool, and actually was instructive regarding when and how data is sent.

crashes just as fast on a MacBook Pro with Max 4.6.2…(in Mac OS X
10.4.8)

This is a documented limitation.

I couldn’t agree more… so many times I realize I’ve been fiddling with something for hours and there hasn’t been a peep of sound from the speakers! Kind of sad, but the process is interesting.

Also, I’m doing a lot of this to build a set of tutorials for students in Max classes that I assist in. Hopefully it’ll build up my knowledge and resources to push me towards a job working with and teaching Max. So really, it’s all about the Benjamins… and (hopefully) job security!

Beethoven was able to compose great music without hearing a peep sound
from anything…
