I have a jitter OPEN.GL live VJ set in max msp which runs smoothly at 33 frames a second.

I use autopattr and pattrstorage to control jit.gl.slabs which interpolate between presets.

To do this I have a very simple max for live patch.

I have one floatnum box which then gos to qlim 30, and then to UDPSEND 127.0.0.1 port 7000

This then go's into Max msp via udpreceive port 7000 to the pattrstorage preset selecter. Each live track has its own port number.

For all the floats I have the settings, defer automation on, and update rate 30.ms.

I have only 10 tracks each with one float being automated by a live clip.

So this set up drops my frame rate by 10fps and sets my CPU fan onto "take off and fly from the desk mode" with almost no Ableton live devices (1 drum computer and an operator)

Loading a live set without max for live only drops the fps by 3 frames which is fine.

Could someone please tell me what I'm missing ??? How can automating 10 floats and sending it to Max msp bring the whole system down.

I have overdrive disabled in max msp as it only do's jitter work.

My system is a macbook pro i5, quad core, 1gig video memory, 8 gig of ram, so it must be an optimization issue or some very simple theory I'm missing.
