Video Panorama

February 18, 2013 | 1:04 pm

So ive been working with Max and Msp for while but for a project i currently working on i believe i need to use jitter. Basically i am creating a panoramic video using some dedicated software or possibly after effects. This will hopefully be a video with a resolution of 11520 x 1080. I think thats right. About 6 videos stitched together. I then want to create a viewing window that is only 1920 x 1080 that i can then pan across the large image . Firstly is this possible, which i believe it is and does anyone have any good tutorials or advice for to start with?

This is an example that stitches three video planes together. You can send each one to a separate projector.

thanks for the reply, Im not really looking for a way to stitch the videos because i can do that easily outside of Max. I just want to be able to set a 1920 x 1080 viewing box that i can scroll along the videos…. is it the ken burns effect or something. But without the zooming in .

If you just wanted to move a big video around with a window as a viewport on it you could do something like this:

If you wanted a mask viewer within a window you could do something like this:

there’s zero chance that your machine will be able to playback 11520 x 1080 dimension video smoothly (if at all).

your best bet would be to keep them as six separate files, loaded into six qt.movies playing to six gl.videoplanes.
all video optimizations will be necessary (proper codec, colormode uyvy).

you will also want to keep track of which videos are currently visible (should only be two at a time), and stop playback to qt.movies that aren’t currently playing.

if the videos are supposed to play in sync, you can use the frame message to keep them all in sync.

here’s a basic patch that will scroll two videoplanes in sync.
