video via gigabit ethernet?

Greetings all

I am setting up a performance system with multiple laptops and am wondering if there is a way to pass video information over hard wired gigabit ethernet ports.

It seems like there should be the capacity to move that kind of information around in a closed network but I am wondering if and how…

it seems like OSC is unlikely to be up to the task but I thought someone else might have an idea about this.

thanks for your musings

hi!
have 3 computer accessing 1 harddisk (which is mounted via personal
file sharing on each computer) and playing back hdv simultaneously.
playback control (like start, stop, which file to playback) is done
via osc from one “master” patch.
this runs quite fluently, and i guess with sd resolution there should
be no problem at all.

cheers! mkl

there’s also jit.net.send/recv.

there are several good options, depending on exactly what you want to do:
- you can use jit.net.send/recv to stream video from one to the other
- you can have a synchronised bank of material on both machines, passing between them only the sync signal (cheapest solution)
- you can output the video via firewire / s-video etc from one, then grab it to the other- degrades quality and not really usefull if you can use jit.net.send.
hope this helps.

i tried doing this but couldn’t get it goin;
i used jit.qt.videoout, and tried to get it into another computer over firewire with jit.qt.grab;

jit.qt.videoout worked fine when connected to a DV cam but computer to computer, no go…

did you have better luck?
