Vista not releasing Max when crashed

January 22, 2009 | 7:22 pm

Hello, I’ve got an annoying problem: when max crashes (which is fairly often) and vista pops up that ‘unexpected error’ message I press ‘close now’ and the max window closes, but its still says its running in task manager and I can’t close it.
Since I can’t run two instances of max and can’t close running one I have to restart! Anyone know whats going on?

Cheers,
Rob

Get a MacPro and run Vista instead VMWare.

I’m not patronizing you.

It’s just that I’ve spent 20 years developing Windows applications and
I’m gaining a lot of momentum regarding Mac OS X and it’s so far
superior in terms of stability.

Again, not patronizing you because you have WIndows, just a suggestoin,.

If max crashes, but the OS shows that it is still running, it is likely that there is a device driver keeping the process alive. Was audio running at the time? What kind of audio+midi devices do you have? If they are usb/firewire you might try unplugging them and seeing if the max process goes away.

By the way, what version of max are you using? And, if you have steps to reproduce crashes then please post them here or send to support so that the crash could possibly be fixed.

Thanks,
Rob
