I was helping out a friend by creating a little patch making her able to

trigger samples by playing an acoustic instrument over a certain loudness.

All along I figured I would use Rewire to connect this thing with Ableton

Live as the host - the main program she is using.

Problem seems to be that Ableton will only send MIDI to Max and get audio

So now I'm figuring creating a VST is the way to go, but I can't seem to

find much information about this, other than "Save as plugin".

So, basically I need to input sound and send out MIDI.

Any pointers of where to look or what to do??

Well you can get audio from Max to Live with Soundflower:

As for converting audio to midi in the plugin world it can be done and good luck with that.

Misread yr post a little, you can't get midi into Live? Your instruments in Live should show up as midi outputs in Max. Alternatively, Max should show up as midi inputs in Live.

I did find the pluggo docs, and I have a functional VST plugin now that
works great :)

As for the whole Rewire thing, I'm gonna save that for another day, for now
VST is a much smarter approach anyways.
