VST params command and parameter output somehow blocked

May 22, 2006 | 2:07 pm

I have a very strange behaviour of vst~, I load a (pluggo) plugin, and
want to retrieve parameters. For test purposes I even have attached a
print directly to the fourth outlet. When sending get xx command I do
get the expected output, but the command params doesn’t put anything
out. The strange thing is, it sometimes works and sometimes not! Very
scary….

Is there some known state where vst~ does not put out parameters? If I
ask with "get 1" it will output, if I move a slider in the vst window it
does not, if I send "params" it does not.

I need it to work.

The vst~ is inside a poly by the way.

I just found the way to track it down:

#P window setfont "Sans Serif" 9.;
#P window linecount 1;
#P newex 85 115 118 196617 poly~ vst~.help 2;
#P window clipboard copytext "poly~ vst~.help 2" #E;
#P window clipboard copycount 1;

open the vst~ then choose a plugin, open the plugin window and move a
control: no output from output 4 which should be visible in the help
file window.
This works if the number of voices is 1, but doesn’t work for more voices.

Expected result: it has to work for any number of voices.

(I would load different VST’s into the different voices by the way…)

not quite true

if i open (message open 1) the 1st instance of poly, load a plug-in
and move controls – it does not work
but if i also open teh second instance of poly, choose a different
(or the same) plug-in now each of them reports the params changes

works with pluggo and with other plug-ins

Thanks, so the bug isn’t as bad as I thought, its not initialized
correctly, I need to open and close the window of two instances… bizarre.

Should be corrected, I don’t want to open windows just for an
initialisation…

can’t you load the plug-ins by any other way???? I mean before you
use it you’ll have to tell you instancies of vst~’s which plug-ins to
load (by some message) – i did not try it, but that should be enough..

of course i don’t know, but it does not seem to be a bug to me – if
you laod a vst~ with no argument, sure it says it loads a "gain"
thing, but maybe this is not a real plug, and the vst still waits to
be "completed" to work…

just guessing – but no one will use a vst~ just for gain…. (or maybe yes)

when your pluggo s parameters only initialise
correctly when the window is opened, then maybe
you should change that before you try to host
it differently?

(or try recaling preset # 1 – maybe that is enough.
but as you know, the patch has no possibilty to know
when the loading has finished.)
