What additive tutorial are you talking about?

In general, phase does not have a great of effect on the timbre of additive synthesis. However, the peak-to-rms ratio of the final waveform (sometimes called the “Crest Factor”) can make a differece when mixing or optimizing dynamics. Waveforms with a lower crest factor are somewhat easier to deal with.

Look at wavemaker.help in the CNMAT objects for some more info.

Timbrally, static phase offsets have little or no direct impact in
additive synthesis, even though the resulting waveforms may be quite
different. Dynamic phase changes, however, will often be readily
audible.

Confucius was Chinese, Haikus are a Japanese poems, and this is more
like a koan…

But you are correct, I should try to do Koans as Haikus and paste them
into a Max patch…

Ok, i see i can increase my signal to noise ratio considerably with
altering the phase of my sine oscillators, but i think that changing each one of them seperatly while wieving the result
sum waveform would be a tedious task.

I guess some mathematic formula that takes account of the other parameters in my additive patch is required.
