nothing technical here, just looking for people’s opinions. What effects would you add to a drum sampler that is aimed to sound ambient?

I’ve basically made a drum sequencer that uses novation’s launchpad for input as well as LED feedback, but at the moment it sounds very crisp, which is not what i’m after! i’ve thought about adding a reverb/delay and maybe a slight bit of distortion/overdrive.

hopefully nothing too technical to make, time is of the essence and i’m not a seasoned max coder, so the simpler the better. also if you have a good idea if you know of a good place for a tutorial that would be ace too.

look forward to hearing your thoughts!

granular synthesis seems key for all ambient.
see in your app folder:
Max5/examples/sampling/granular

simpler would be multi-tap delay with granular like settings(short delay times, many tap-heads at once, see stutter~ or tapin~ and use multiple tapout~ with either)

I have heard that creating reverbs in max is pretty tough, i’ve never tried it myself. But, of course reverb comes to mind when I think of “ambient”

for reverb in max, you can see one way it’s done in Randy Jones’s yafr2 object demonstrated in this example within your Max app folder:
Max5/examples/effects/reverb/…
