Does anyone know what method most synth manufacturers use to create the waveforms used in wavetables?

Do they use a large bank of sine oscillators?

I think they simply cut one period out of a recording..

roland copies their waveforms from korg and then they sue

For aliasing oscillators [which I prefer for FM, personally],

there's no reason not to go with a single period waveform.

For antialiasing oscillators, try a patent search.... :-)

A single period waveform could be antialiased if the higher harmonices are filtered in the higher octaves, right?

Math and sampling, I guess not most but all of them...

I bet none is doing it more complicated than necessary...

If it is not a modular synth design, I think most of the synths 

use wavetables that hold a cycle or a set of cycles that it uses 

as source material. Very few use actual physical modeling.
