What's replacing max message: boxcolor?

April 29, 2008 | 10:48 am

The max message "boxcolor" is no longer supported. What’s replacing it?

I’m still hoping that Max 5 is going to make custom GUIs easier to design. While checking out the the expanded color box, now called the maxswatch, I’ve not found any way to automatically load custom colors as I did with Max 4. This would include the ability to backup and restore the users existing swatches when my application initializes and closes.

Did I overlook something?

Have a look to "Objects Defaults" in options menu.

Hi Emmanuel,

Sorry, I still don’t see how that can be done automatically using Max only and be transparent to the user.

In other words:
I’d like my custom palette loaded automatically when the user opens my file and the user’s original palette restored automatically when my file is being closed. The user only opens and closes the file. There were max messages that allowed me to do this in Max 4.6.

If you already understood this, then perhaps I’m not grasping what you just said.

Direct control of color. There is no longer the concept of having a
palette 15 colors that were the only colors that many object
understand. Now you set the colors directly, from a "palette" of
millions of colors.
