Im only interested in noteon/off messages, playing every note from C1 to C6 – simplest midifiles as possible-

Thanks!

I understand i use seq object with messages open, start and stop, but i dont understand how to connect it to my oscillator.
I only need note on/off and pitch.

Thanks

seq outputs MIDI raw bytes, you need to filter only the notes:
midiparse would do the job. Then you might need to convert the midi
pitch into frequency with the mtof object. For the amplitude,
dividing by 127 should do it.

Take the note out from seq~, run it through mtof~ and into the
frequency input on your oscillator. To get more favorable results,
you might also want to hook up an envelope generator to control the
amplitude of the oscillator’s output.

Just a tip – Get used to looking in the Max and/or MSP reference
manual under ‘Object Thesaurus’ to find objects which will do a
specific task you’re interested in doing.

Hi Peter, I know I must sound like a broken record, but the tutorials
really do teach you this stuff – how far along in the tutorials are you
at this point?

Andreas.

And if you want the Thesaurus as a max patch which also loads the help
files, go to http://www.cycling74.com/twiki/bin/view/Share/StefanTiedje

have fun…
