Why does the File > Save (command + s) always bring up the Save As dialouge?

This problem has annoyed me for quite some time but I thought I’d finally bring it up in the forum and see if anyone else has this problem.

I’m pretty good at remembering to give a quick apple + ‘s’ to save my work regularly, but for some reason in Max this always brings up the save as dialogue. That means I have to physically click on the file name each time and replace the file. It’s not a huge problem, but I do have to move the mouse and click through a couple prompts and it won’t let me simply press enter on the keyboard. I’d much rather just have my command + ‘s’ functionality back so I can do it often and not worry about it! Thanks,

I’m guessing you have a slash in a folder name somewhere in the path you are trying to save to.

For example, a common one is to have a folder called ‘Max/MSP’. Avoid back/slashes in file and folder names like the plague.

It happens when you open a Max4 patch in Max5, which is a good way to force you to change the name of your patch before you lost your initial Max4 version.

I think the “/” was the issue with me. All seems to be working fine now.
