Hi all,

Thanks to those who helped with answers and pointers in response to
my questions regarding windowing functions. Here’s a link to my patch
for making windows. It still needs a couple of tweaks, but it’s
pretty much all there.

Hope it’s useful to folks!

Just FYI, I think that the HTML gets disabled in the forum view so non mailing list types (like myself) just see the words with nothing to click on or copy/paste. Though it’s interesting to me that when quoting you I do see links to copy/paste…

OK, well, damn…I tried posting the entire patch as text a couple

What’s the ‘Forum-approved’ method of distributing large patches,

Sorry, maybe I wasn’t totally clear. I think that you CAN paste links if they look like:

http://www.cycling74.com

(i.e. are the text of the link) but not if they look like:

<a href="//www.cycling74.com"">achieve your wildest dreams

(i.e. are a hyper link) because all that shows up on the forum (at least in my browser/platform, Firefox 2.0.0.3 on Mac OSX.3.9) with a post coming from the email list is the part between the href tags (not sure how these will look or be parsed going out to your email though). Neither method gives a “clickable” link but with the first method I can at least see it and copy and paste…..which I did by the way, and thanks for sharing a great patch! :) Very useful!!

No HTML of any kind is allowed in forum posts. This is by design, because allowing HTML in forum posts inevitably screws up patch posts. There is, however, an intermittent problem with mailing list attachments being imported into the forum. Your best bet in this situation is to *always* post an attachment on your personal web site and provide a link to it, or post your Max patch inline. Also, just because the URL is not wrapped in an tag doesn’t mean you can’t copy and paste it into your browser.

There are definite limitations to this forum. One day we’ll have time to address each and every one of them; in the meantime, however, we’d appreciate it if everyone would learn/remember what the limitations are and develop effective work-arounds. Not an ideal situation I know but one which is necessary nonetheless.

cheers
