I realized that when I save a patch with a subpatch window opened, the subpatch window will open again when opening the main patch.

It could be useful but it could be dangerous especially when the patch is loaded in a poly~ with hundreds of instances, it will open hundred times the same window.

I think you just have to try to remember to close all subpatches when you save. There is a "visible" attribute to the [patcher] box in the JSON that you can change in a text edtor which will disable this but I'm not sure its achievable from a menu or programatically inside max.

yes I know I have to remember to close all subwindow before saving but when I am testing I usually edite a patch and save it to see the effect in the poly~ so it's not very practicle to have to close all windows before saving...

You could always create a [pcontrol] object for each sub-patch and send it a "close" message triggered with a loadbang.

[pcontrol] is actually for subpatches and abstractions and won't work with [poly~]. But the "wclose" message will, and without arguments will close all the windows (tested with 3 windows in the [poly~] helpfile).

Also you can choose Window-->Hide Subwindows, which hides all your subwindows including those from [poly~].
