I was looking at the tutorial for creating the first shader.
there is just one thing I don’t get in the tut.blank.jxs
the < ![CDATA[ isn't what does the [CDATA[ do?

I just want to understand this 100% before I dive into shader land

This is just an XML thing that says the next block should not be
interpreted by the parser:

CDATA:
Everything inside a CDATA section is ignored by the parser.

If your text contains a lot of "< " or "&" characters - as program code
often does – the XML element can be defined as a CDATA section.

A CDATA section starts with "< ![CDATA[" and ends with "]]>":
