After figuring out how the get the idea of horiz. and vertical zoomable multisliders to work (a lot more fiddling was required than I ever imagined), I'm pretty pleased with it and am wondering if anyone else has done something similar, or can think of features to add.

I'll be adding presets and algorithms for selecting various chunks of the zoom range bar, so that one can easily zoom to the first 8, the second 8, the third 64, etc., depending on the resolution.

I chose to keep it to 256 resolution max because there's a bunch of vexpr computations I'd like to do on the data (rotate values, normalize, scale, randomize, etc.) Also I'm imagining to not need quite so many data points as multislider / javascript can provide (a la ejies objects, which by the way are really great).

The power of the multislider will come upon playback, where there will be another range bar to select the scope of the loop, change direction / ping-pong, divide the playback into larger chunks (like only sample every 4 instead of each one), use line for output interpolation, etc.

This will eventually be included in a multitracker as a bpatcher (which will resize based upon vertical zoom level). That way one can work in detail on one track, or up to about 8 at once on a reasonably-sized monitor.

Output from the multislider, upon playback, can then be further manipulated -- scaled, randomized, etc., or my favorite, used as a modulator for other multisliders or bpfunctions---probably scale the values to 0.0 - 1.0 and multiply by the values in the other one(s), or use as an additive offset...

If you've decided to go with regular max objects rather than js/etc, 

then you may be pleased with what zl can do for you: rotation, 

retrograde, etc., are all very easy to accomplish... and should be more 

I may be able to clean up an aging patch to demo some more interesting 

possibilities; I'll see how much time I end up with this evening.

If you've decided to go with regular max objects rather than js/etc, 
then you may be pleased with what zl can do for you: rotation, 
retrograde, etc., are all very easy to accomplish... and should be more 
fun with your nice range selector.

you can also do that kind of thing with the waveform~ object. it has mousing data sent out one of its outlets, you can use that to draw curves, histograms or whatever into a buffer. to get it to redraw quickly draw a small object on top of it and send script move messages to a thispatcher to redraw that object on top of the waveform~ when you mouse around.. then it will update much quicker and let you drag curves around and stuff

Hey, that's really great, there's a lot of those features already built into waveform. Maybe a combination would work well, as multislider is good for "chunky" and discrete data, while waveform will hold lots and lots of more continuous data (a lot more easily than multisliders, and with a lot more data points).

The multislider settings could be made into selection sizes or offsets for the buffer/waveform playback, that would be interesting. Or their values could represent speed of playback, anything is possible.

I couldn't get your attachment to work, I think it's a OSX / XP issue (mac text file?) I got it open in WordPad and it looks fine, but Max doesn't open it. Not sure what's going on.

Since my earlier post I've made a lot of upgrades, so now you can move the range bar around (using a regular horizontal slider), plus it won't get cut off at the end of the range. So now you can choose a zoom range (like 4 or 16 perhaps) and easily move that size of "chunk" around. Your zoom slider would show only that many points, anywhere in the overall range.

Still, I can't believe how much fiddling and unexpected things came up, there's likely a number of simpler ways to do this, my patches tend to "try to do too much" and they get messy.... ah well, that's the learning curve too.
