I've done this before, but I can't seem to get it to work now. It seems to work for the scripting name, but not for long name or short name. I'm using the convention 

, and the end result just prints with the pound sign and doesn't replace with the argument. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Okay, I think the trick is you open a new view of the bpatcher (as opposed to opening the original patcher). This can be done by either right click --> "Object" --> "New View of....", or you can double click on the bpatcher in a blank space. Then you go to the M4L object you want to give a long name, and just type it in. In new view, it seems to modify only the name of currently selected instance of the bpatcher's object. I don't see any documentation of this, but it seems to work. If anyone can verify, I'd appreciate it.
