001web The first c74 release from The Freight Elevator Quartet might be said to be a microcosm of the label itself: live recordings which intermingle instruments (cello, didjeridoo, modular synth, drum machine, keyboards, guitars, basses, and a PowerBook running Max/MSP) and musical genres (drum’n'bass, academic electroacoustic music, pop, dub, space, electro, and hip-hop) into a refined and coherent whole.

It started as a website for a program called MSP

In 1997, the original website was designed by Cat’s Eye Press to use the Brush Script font, images from a 1974 Schwinn bicycle catalog, and a pastel-to-Howard Johnson color palette. And then things got out of hand.

Sometimes it just needs to be said
