“Gagaku” is a simple ambient generative piece, in the form of a standalone app for your Mac. Based on a selection of traditional Japanese scales, “Gagaku” generates a constantly-changing, sparse and minimal soundscape in realtime. At times it will be very sparse, with extended moments of silence, while at other times it will be more dense.

All profits go to the Japanese Red Cross Society to help those affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

How was MAX used?

Built entirely in Max. Nothing terribly fancy or advanced under the hood: the patch consists of essentially a simple synth, and a system for randomly generating the performance (note and scale selection, timing, phrasing, density, synth parameters, etc.).

Great one, just purchased it!
One question though, how could I set my midi controller for on/off and volume? I clicked on midi setup but couldn’t really figure it out.

Hi Alexandros–thanks for purchasing/donating!
I didn’t actually implement any midi control in this thing–it’s intended to simply be like a “music box”. Would be simple enough to do though, so why not! When I have a little time I’ll set a version up like that and send to you.
