Project 4: Words

“Words” is an installation in which participants enter a soundscape with three layers: Environment, Words, and User. Based on their position in a large space, they hear a unique mix of sound from the combination of the three layers at that location. The sounds are placed and processed in a Max patch, then sent wirelessly to their headphones; participants can add their recorded word at whatever location they choose by “emptying” a box they carry, which triggers a sensor and seeds the word.
