Cycling ’74 was a name given to a software web site to sell a program called MSP. The site was designed by Cat’s Eye Press to use the Brush Script font, images taken from a 1974 Schwinn bicycle catalog, and a pastel-to-Howard Johnson color palette — all elements not associated with technology products at the time. A few months later, the project started getting out of hand when the company “Cycling ’74″ was officially incorporated in the State of California (so we could get health insurance) and a small office on Folsom Street in San Francisco was opened. The project has operated continuously for the past 13 years, with the exception of most weekends and major holidays.
