AWARD WINNING PROGRAMMING ENVIRONMENT FOR NEW MEDIA
San Francisco, CA August 11, 2006 - Cycling '74, a San Francisco-based music software company, today released Max/MSP v. 4.6 and Jitter v. 1.6 which add Universal Binary support for Intel-based Macs running OS 10.4 or later.
Max, a graphical programming environment for music and media applications, allows its users to schedule events with millisecond accuracy, create complex mappings for incoming data, and run a large number of operations in parallel. In essence, it is a graphic tool to create programs by wiring together objects. MSP extends Max’s capabilities by incorporating audio objects that are connected to create audio patches where signals flow from one object to the next—not unlike the fundamental concept of the modular synthesizer. Jitter is a collection of video, matrix, and 3D graphics objects for Max.
Max/MSP v. 4.6 and Jitter v. 1.6 are free Mac updates available now for download at http://www.cycling74.com/downloads/. Max/MSP v. 4.6 and Jitter v. 1.6 for Windows will also be free and available in September.

FREEWARE AUDIO CONNECTION TOOL FOR MAC
San Francisco, CA August 3, 2006 - Cycling '74, a San Francisco-based music software company, today released Soundflower v. 1.2 which adds Universal Binary support for Intel-based Macs. Soundflower is a free system extension that allows users to route audio between OS X Core Audio applications. It also lets you monitor any connection with the free Soundflowerbed application.
Cycling '74 originally developed Soundflower as a way to allow applications developed with its Max/MSP audio environment to process audio originating from other programs. However, it can be used for more general audio routing tasks patching either 2- or 16-channel data at 32-bit sample depth between any applications that support standard Core Audio driver selection. Soundflower can be selected as a "default device" in the Audio/MIDI Setup utility for programs (such as iTunes) that do not allow the selection of a specific output device. As a result, Soundflower has found widespread use in the advanced podcasting community.
Soundflower and Soundflowerbed are free and can be downloaded at http://www.cycling74.com/downloads/soundflower

The flagship plug-in, named UpMix, provides functionality that can speed the repurposing of stereo or mono audio content into a surround environment. By providing a number of algorithms and advanced positioning control, UpMix offers an easy way to expand an entire mix or individual elements of a mix into immersive surround tracks. Five additional plug-ins handle common surround mixing tasks:
- Rotator moves a 5.1 mix in a circular fashion—allowing the point of view to follow the on-screen action.
- ReRoute acts as a universal format router allowing the conversion of any 6 channel format to another.
- ReBalance provides a set of level controls for each of the 6 channels within an interleaved multichannel file or bus.
- FoldDown gives you the ability to check your surround mix in stereo, with standards-based center channel and surround channel gain reduction options.
- ReBalance is a simple set of level controls for each of the six surround channels.
- LFE-6chan is a low-frequency generator/enhancer for both individual tracks and entire mixes.
These tools provide an unprecedented level of control. When used as part of an engineer’s toolkit, they can aid in the creation of a deep, immersive mix. UpMix promises to be an innovative tool that increases productivity and ease in professional surround productions. UpMix is available for users of Pro Tools TDM (Macintosh OS X or Windows), Steinberg Nuendo and Cubase SX 3 (Macintosh OS X or Windows) and MOTU Digital Performer.

OUTSTANDING HIGH-END PROCESSING
NAMM Anaheim, CA January 19, 2006 - Cycling '74, a San Francisco-based music software company, today demonstrated UpMix, a surround processing and upmixing software package for VST and RTAS formats on both MacOS and Windows platforms at the Winter NAMM Expo in Anaheim, California. The flagship plug-in, named UpMix, provides functionality that can speed the repurposing of stereo audio content into a surround environment. By providing a number of algorithms and advanced positioning control, UpMix offers an easy way to move stereo files into an immersive surround environment suitable for film, DVD, HD broadcast and music surround formats.
Five additional plug-ins handle common surround mixing tasks:
-Rotator moves a 6-channel mix in a circular fashion – allowing the point of view to follow the on-screen action.

NAMM Anaheim, CA January 19, 2006 - Cycling '74 today announced revision software 1.3 for the JazzMutant Lemur Multi-touch control surface. The forthcoming update will be available via download for all current Lemur customers. New software features in version 1.3 allow the Lemur to be reconfigured in powerful ways from a host computer via the OSC (Open Sound Control) protocol.
The Lemur is a hardware controller for new media applications featuring a proprietary LCD touch screen for which users create their own user interfaces. The Lemur sends OSC messages to a Windows or Mac host computer over 100-base T Ethernet. The new version 1.3 software expands the repertoire of OSC commands the host computer can send back to the Lemur, allowing any of the eight types of user interface objects to be changed on the fly. This allows the Lemur to be used both as a controller and a status monitor.
Most intriguing are the new messages for switching among the Lemur's multiple interface "pages" from the host computer. This means, for example, that a composition could automatically change the interface presented to a performer as a piece progresses. Other new features include new graphic designs for many of the UI objects, six new functions for the Lemur's powerful built-in mathematical expression language, and new ways to customize the appearance of the standard objects. Version 1.3 continues JazzMutant's policy of regular updating of the Lemur software since the product was first released in mid-2005. New features added over the past several months include MIDI support, a new "RingArea" UI objects that resembles a super joystick, and a unique time synchronization system.
