Cycling '74 Ordering FAQ Page

General

If I bought during the grace period and am entitled to a free upgrade, how do I get it?

If you purchased Max after October 1, 2007 you qualify for the free upgrade to Max 5. You should have received an e-mail on Thursday, April 24th with upgrade instructions. If not, please e-mail your full name and serial number(s) to our orders department.

How do I know which kind of Max 5 upgrade to buy?

We admit there are many options, but we offer them to give people the most flexibility and good discounts on bundles.
  • If you own Max/MSP, and want to upgrade to Max/MSP version 5, the item name is "Max/MSP 5 Upgrade"
  • If you only own Max, you can buy the upgrade and add MSP and Jitter. Item name "Max Upgrade plus MSP and Jitter"
  • If you own Max/MSP, you can buy the upgrade and add Jitter. Item name "Max/MSP 5 Upgrade plus Jitter"
  • If you own Max/MSP and Jitter 1.2 (or older), you can buy the upgrade and add Jitter. Same item name as above "Max/MSP 5 Upgrade plus Jitter"

If you are a student, the good news is that if you only own Max/MSP, you can get the Max/MSP/Jitter upgrade for the same price as the Max/MSP upgrade. This is a result of our eliminationg education Max/MSP-only bundles. All education products will include Max/MSP and Jitter from now on. Student upgrade item name is "Max/MSP 5 Upgrade plus Jitter"

If you are unsure of what you own, contact our orders department. Be sure to include your full name, your old serial number, and the email address with which you registered (if you still have that information).

How do I qualify for the student price?

You must be currently enrolled in a school and have valid identification.

Do I have to be a student in the U.S.?

No. We accept international students, too.

Where do I send a copy of my identification?

IDs can be scanned and e-mailed to student@cycling74.com or faxed to +1 415 974-1812. Scanned IDs must be small JPGs and faxed IDs must have a clearly written name and e-mail address on them.

As a student, can I get discounts on all Cycling '74 products?

No. Please find the list and prices in the Student Discount section.

What are your transfer and return policies?

It's important to know your options, if you decide you don't want the software. Click here to get details.

If I bought and authorized the 9-month temp license, can I upgrade to version 5?

Yes. You should have received an e-mail with a new serial number and authorization instructions on April 24th. If not, please e-mail your full name to our orders department and tell them you have a student 9-month temp license and would like to get version 5.

Packaged vs Downloadable orders

Does one type contain more or different information than the other?

No. All Cycling '74 products include the same information in the downloadable and packaged versions excluding Radial. (The Radial download does not include all the loop samples, but they can be ordered separately.)

Do I have to purchase the software before downloading and installing?

No. You can download and install any time. Most Cycling '74 software has some demo period or buzz.

If I buy the package, can I download it, too?

Yes. It's the same information, so you can always download even if you purchased the package. In fact, you are encouraged to download updates to your software to keep up-to-date with bug fixes and improvements.
