In the "Controlling MSP with Messages" section of the reference manual, the following line appears: "The word optimize, followed by a zero or one, turns Altivec optimization on (1) or off (0)." I don't know if these are related or not.

It appears that the only output of using a toggle into [adstatus optimize] is a "set 1" or "set 0" message. Not sure whey the above example uses a [route] object, as nothing with either "clear" or "append" is being sent. Not really sure what's happening with this object, but it does force multiple [cycle~] objects to align in phase.
