If I am not wrong, in order to save a buffer's segment into a file without loosing the whole contents stored in this buffer, one has to copy the buffer's contents into another buffer, crop this second buffer to the desired segment and then use the "write" message.

Something like a "writesegment" message, with a start position and an end position would be nice, don't you think?

if it a very short segment i would use index~ to copy it in the alternate buffer. 

saving parts directly would be nice of course.

other possibility is to use jit.buffer~ objects. output as a matrix and you can use jit.submatrix on it or use the attributes of the jit.buffer~ to just output specific range of samples and input a specific range into second jit.buffer~
