i'm trying to develop a pair of externals that has a "core" object (server) and a set of "client" objects that receive data and commands from it.

i found the section titled "Connecting Objects As Clients and Servers" in the WritingExternals document, but i'd really like to have some example code.

does anyone have any? (or any suggestions relating to use of the connection stuff?)

I looked into those. But I ended up simply storing a pointer to the client object in the server object and calling the client's outlet_anything function from within the server object.

I have never used the methods described in the writingexternals.pdf, but I

suspect the notify technique described in the pattr sdk would be the

"modern" way to do this. You can have a look at jit.notify from the jitter

sdk, which uses the client/server strategy to send data from the jitter

object (server) to the max wrapper (client).

If I remember correctly the example is missing from the Windows SDK

download, so (if your using Windows) you have to get the OSX sdk, and unpack

the dmg on a mac. Or I could send it to you directly to save you the hassle.

The notify technique is also discussed in the Jitter online documents. Pattr

behaves similar to the Jitter equivalent, only the method names differ.
