Automation Help

    Apr 09 2006 | 11:04 pm
I am making my first ever patch in MAX/MSP. It is supposed to break an audio file in to sections and then rearrange the order of the sections. I have used the wave display object (sorry for incorrect object name) connected to the buffer with various number boxes determining start and end points for each section of audio. I am currently using a random object to flick between each different section of audio. I would like to add automation to the patch so as i can choose in which order the sections are played back but have no idea how to do this.... Please help!
I have included the patch. Any suggestions on how to make it better in any way would also be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Ted

Sounds very much like a patch that you'll find in the examples/sequencing-looping/modsquad folder. Btw, attachments are not (yet) enabled on the forum; if you want to send a patch, the best way is to unlock it, select all, copy & paste into your post, which will post it as text. People can then open it by copying the text and selecting 'new from clipboard' in Max. Cheers Roger

You can set up a coll with start and end points, and randomly select coll entries and pass that information to your playing part of the patch. (I suppose you went through the tutorials and know what I am talking about... ;-) The project you choose to make your first patch is a good one, its neither too complicated, nor too trivial. If you get this working the way you want, you learned the basics of Max.

No attachments if you post through the forum, no patch in your mail...
To get it into a mail: open and unlock your patch in Max, select all and then paste it into the mail body. It will show up as max patch in text format. The other way round, select the text (lines starting with #..), copy and in Max either select "new from clipboard" or open a new patcher window and paste...
      Welcome in the family...

This is huge, but contains a lot of pasted help files which is a good way to get started, but before you send it in, please delete anything which is not related to your problem. Nobody wants to wave through your patch to find out what is essential, thats your job, because you're the only one who knows it....
