I am making a few devices that have nothing to do with audio nor midi: text-based things, visualizations, send OSC to another software, open Max Console ... 

Is there a way to create a device that could be dropped both on a midi track and on an audio track without having the orange Live message? 

Seems like it's not possible, but if someone has an idea let me know.!

the audio-devices can be dropped at midi-tracks, too. I guess you can't avoid to make a dummydevice of one of the 3 possible styles.

it would be awesome if a device's type could be determined by its inputs/outputs instead of the one given at its creation

somehow mimicking the distinction between sex and gender
