I'm working with input from a bunch of sensors (25, to be exact) and ideally I'd need a way to sort through their data streams on the fly and output whichever currently sends the highest number.

I was wondering if there's an efficient strategy for doing this, it doesn't seem to me to be a trivial problem; the only solution I came up with was hooking up a bunch of [>] and [switch] objects in line but that feels extremely hacky.

if you have a list of all sensors,
you can sort it using zl sort -1  (descending) for example.

I didn't think that Markus meant "sort" in that sense. I took it to mean that he had 25 channels of constantly changing sensor values and that he he imagined that he have to keep rotating through each value in turn to find which one was the highest.

The most suitable method depends on the type of application. For the best lap time of a race event with 25 electric rabbits, you would take the highest number. For 25 bow sensors of an ocean liner model, you might want to compare, average or weight similar values in order to react or not to react to certain situations. Then the sorted list may be a better approach.
