hi there, i'd like to know if and how it is possible to give the user of a final executable the ability to patch in and outs.. i want to create something like a virtual modular synth.

max as a programming language is kinda modular by default. you can, for example create a patcher, save it to disk, and recall it from another patcher window using the bpatcher object. when yout wantn to load another patcher, you delete-and-replace it with scripting. not exactly a plug-in, but a very similar look and feel.

in some situations it might make sense to "preload" stuff: you´d have an audio effect somewhere hidden and inside a poly object. then when you want to call one instance you let your program (read: main patcher window) do the routing and open one window of one voice of the poly.

if you downgrade to max 4.6 you might also use pluggo plug-ins right inside max ;)

ctrlmatrix could be a way. but is it possible to create visual plugs for the end user, for example like in reason's backside of the rack...

that is what you do with the bpatcher object.

apropos "final executable", this is probably too much work. max v.7 gives third parties the abilty to patch your stuff "regulary" using the demo/runtime for free.
