I can define multiple inlets and outlets of different types for an object. e.g .:

The return is a pointer to the new outlet.

How can I determine the type of inlets / outlets here? Is there a typedef for the pointer? e.g.

outlet_t * outlet1 = (outlet_t *) outlet_new ((t_pxobject *) x, "signal");

Since I dynamically generate my inlets and outlets, I can use long outlet_count (t_object * x); and void * outlet_nth (t_object * x, long n); iterate through the outlets. I just want the "signal" -Outlets, only.
