I am very new to Max so please be patient with me if possible :)

I am trying to send a dictionary over UDP using dict.serializie and dicr.deserialize. The problem that the dictionary doesn't arrive in the same format on the other side and also it doesn't seem to contain all the data: it has a lot of <unknown> fields.

I have attached the project if you'd like to try it :)

OK, I downloaded your very cool patch and had a look-- it looks like a bug to me, but if you change the serializer to @mode to json it works!

I've looked at the help file of [dict.serialize] and found that it doesn't work for dict with nested keys unless you add the attribute '@mode json' or 'compress 1' . Maybe a bug or just an undocumented limitation.

Wow thank you so much guys!!! It works!!! I changed it to '@mode json' and to goes just fine! I already had 'compress 1' but with '@mode dictionary' and it wasn't working.

And the patch is not entirely mine, I'm just using this Skeletal tracking thing (https://github.com/yuichkun/n4m-posenet), to control parameters in Ableton.

Ufff it seems there's still some issue to it:

I want to send this dictionary over UDP to an M4L patch(ableton m4l device called 'TestForSupport.amxd') that will receive this dictionary and will manage the data in different ways. 

If I open both the main.maxpatch and TestForSupport.amxd patches in Max, outside Ableton, it seems everything works just fine but as soon as I open the TestForSupport.amxd in Ableton I start getting a lot of errors like this one: 'dict.view: no dictionary named u330000957' and sometimes after this I get a crash. Can you please help me with this? Maybe I am doing something in a wrong way. Or please let me know what's the best way to send this data over to a M4L device in Ableton.

It's a general limitation of UDP that an udpreceive port can be bound only to one application at the same time. So since you have an udpreceive in your Max main patch the same port cannot be used with udpreceive in Ableton Live.

thank you for the tip! I tried removing the udpreceive from the main patch and the behavior is the same. Also before removing it there was data being received in the ableton patch, the problem was the loads of errors like:

Another problem could be that the M4L editor involves switching between applications (Live/Max) which may affect udpreceive.

So do you guys think there is a solid solution for sending this dictionary data between these 2 Max, M4L patches?

Thanks for the support team of Max which guided me to upgrade to the latest 8.1 Max this is solved now!
