DMX?

    Hi,
I am aware that this is a pretty general question but, I wanted to design a DMX controller in Max for general use. Ie, something that could be configured to different systems. I have some understanding of how the protocol works but not sure of the best way to generate this data in Max.
Any general pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

i am not sure what you mean by "design a DMX controller in Max for general use" - guess it's a little like building a MIDI general controller - you need a midi interface for this, and i belive in the case of DMX you have to have a dmx interface
I use the lanbox for this, and controllng DMX is really easy with this - I am not at all a specialist of dmx, but so far controling anything (I needed) was really simple, so simple that I never even did a controller sub-patch nor anything - it usually is just a question of putting 2 or 3 boxes together...

I use this and it works very well. It has its own object in Max and you just send it a list of values, very easy to use!

maybe check the lanbox from cds http://www.lanbox.com
its a bit more expensive than other dmx-usb hardware but it gives you dmx-in and dmx-out on tcp/ip ,udp ,usb ,midi and it can operate standalone there are some maxobjects with it or use the lcedit software that comes with the box
i used it myself to make my own dmx controller in max which was used for an opera play .

yes, working with udmx is fun. it's easy to use, stable and _small_. also, michi is a nice guy who could use some more support ;)
