dmxusb external queries

Hi has anyone come across any problems with this object? Im trying to connect an Enttech open dmx interface the my PC running windows XP. Its running via a usb 1.1 port.
I get the following error when clicking the 'open COM3' message box in the dmxusb help file: 'error: dmxusb: could not set params to control dcb of device'.
I have gone into the device manager in XP to change the com port to COM3 but its still not working.
Has anyone else come across this?
    Thanks.

      hi kit!
i haven't been working on a win-pc with the device yet, we problems using it on a mac as well. it probably is not the device. try using a shorter and/or high quality usb-cable instead of the one shipped with the device! this solved the problem in my case. if you still have problems try contacting the developer: nullmedium.de if you are using a laptop be sure the device gets enough power. it needs about 300mA in peak.

Hi Jens, you are using the DMX USB PRO interface, this guy is talking about the Open version which is nothing else than a USB to RS485 converter without any processor inside.

He already did and is still writing to the list his encrypted short messages in case I don't reply to his emails within 30 minutes.

Hi...I just wanted to add myself to this list of questions...
Olaf, I just wondered if you had any hope of getting the Enttec OpenDMX widget working on OS X...
I'd e-mailed you a while ago and it sounded like you were still working on it, but I haven't heard since.
I really appreciate your hard work (I'm using the widget under XP successfully now)...but I'd really love (and be willing to pay you like $60 if it worked in the next few weeks) for the ability to use it under OSX. I know I can buy the Pro version and your external for that, but it's a lot of $$ when the cheaper one almost does what I want.
Please let me know if there's any hope, I have a project coming up that I'd love to use a widget for, but it's Mac only so I'm looking for other solutions.
      Thanks again!

I'm no longer working on it.

I stopped worrying about getting the Open going under OS X becasue I saw how it was eating my CPU power. I have a home-made version of it that should be the same as the one from Enttec and mine is working under OS X, the Enttec is not (although I used their published schematic to build mine). Due to all the trouble with the Open and people asking whether they could use it to receive DMX (which won't work) I dropped my interface into the trashcan and stopped working on the Open's software. I think it's really a bad idea to rely on the OS to pump out DMX data at 250kbps as a continous data stream where timing between bytes is used by the receiver to identify channel numbers.

If anyone was wondering I eventually got the external to work. My computer wasnt recognising the interface as a VCP port. Thanks Olaf for creating this!
