Howdy all,
I posted a year or two ago about creating an iTunes-like file browser in Max (mostly for non-audiovisual files like .txt files) that one could use to save playlists/re-order by meta tag/search by genre/etc.
I just got into Max 7, and although my file browser has been in a perpetual state of "Rebuilding database..." (tried using the db.reset message but keep getting error in Max window) preventing me from building a collection... I'm curious, is it now possible to create these playlists of non-media files and then perhaps even drag and drop them into a max patch / umenu /etc.?
For example, I have a bunch of little hand drum patterns saved as .llll files for display in bach.score, and while I have them all organized in different folders (btw, sweet add on how you can drop a folder straight into a patcher and have it populate a umenu), but I would love to save a "playlist" of a bunch of these files from various folders and be able to drag and drop those into Max. I suppose for less storage heavy files, the best work around might be to just copy the files and re-order them into new folders that act as playlists. I'm curious though if the new +collection feature in the browser will let me achieve this very same thing. Could be very useful for larger files.
Also, while I"m at it, anyone else have the same problems with "rebuilding database" message in file browser? looks like there's a progress bar but even after leaving Max running for 2+ days, there's no sign of color on the bar, blank as the snow piling up outside my window.
Thanks,
G
